ilumen Solar is a commercial and residential solar developer in the NW Chicago suburbs. We specialize in a wide variety of commercial offerings and high-quality residential systems. Our main goal is to educate and promote solar energy initiatives throughout the northern regions of Illinois and to our local community. While doing this, we want to ensure the projects are done to the highest degree of craftsmanship, communication, transparency, and thoroughness to ensure high quality systems for the typical 25+ year life span.
Zach Witt, owner and founder of ilumen Solar, was born and raised in Barrington, IL. Witt graduated from Barrington High School in ’05 and studied Business Management and Entrepreneurship at Montana State University. Along the way, an appreciation for the outdoors led to a passion for protecting it. In 2016 that passion led to starting ilumen Solar with the mentality of “if we don’t start a solar business here then we’d be doing a disservice to the community”.
Witt is a certified NABCEP Technical Sales Professional, on the Board of Directors at the Barrington Chamber, High School business mentor for Barrington District 220, and continually looking for ways to get involved and make a positive change.
Dan is the Operations Manager at ilumen Solar. He holds a double major in Biochemistry/Pre-Pharmacy from the University of Iowa and began his career in clinical pharmacy, completing a residency at AHSHS St. John’s in Springfield, IL. Despite his initial path, Dan discovered his passion for organization and client communication through project management at his father's company, Integrity Sales and Marketing.
At ilumen Solar, Dan plays a key role in overseeing project management, equipment ordering, inventory, policy research, and incentive application processing. Dan also manages system maintenance and monitoring post-installation, maintaining a focus on client satisfaction and system performance. His commitment to excellence and education is evident in his work, making him an invaluable part of the ilumen Solar team.
Dilip brings a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise to his role at ilumen Solar. With a degree in Music Business from Columbia College Chicago, Dilip honed his skills in managing projects, coordinating logistics, and understanding complex customer needs—skills that translate seamlessly to the solar industry.
As the Site Surveyor and Certified Drone Pilot, Dilip focuses on ensuring accurate site assessments and providing personalized calculations to help customers find the best solar solutions. His attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction and needs allow him to bridge the gap between technical requirements and client expectations, making the transition to solar energy smooth, accurate, and informed.
Our site visit and drone flights are conducted before the final proposal, not after the order is signed. We aim to have the most accurate production estimates as possible which leads to accurate financials of the system and good long-term customer experience.
We are meticulous with design and aesthetics. In most cases, solar is a visible appliance, so it should have a quality appearance. (This is our specialty)

All roof conduits will be hidden in the attic unless it’s physically not possible or doesn’t make sense.
